WHAT WE DO: Couples Therapy
Why Couples Therapy?
It's truly challenging to live within a relationship that's not working. At times when people strive to maintain their relationship, it can be accompanied by anxiety, frustration and feelings of hopelessness.
Couples therapy can enable both parties to deal with their relationship effectively, as it addresses such issues as the lack of intimacy, feeling taken for granted, not being "heard" in the relationship or even painful issues of infidelity, physical or emotional abuse.
Conflict is inevitable in any relationship, but when it becomes erosive and toxic, a well-trained professional therapist can offer help to balance, save or restore the relationship. With support from a skillful and experienced Couples Therapist, conflict may be dramatically reduced and the repair process will be facilitated to relieve strain and anxiety, creating feelings of well being.
Couples Therapy provides a systematic approach to:
- Reduce conflict and stabilize the relationship
- Develop more effective communication patterns
- Help couples create a positive relationship based on authenticity and friendship
- Create the true currency of a successful relationship - trust and good will
- Learn to resolve problems in a thoughtful and collaborative manner
Couples Therapy teaches how to:
- Cultivate empathy
- Talk to each other in a more sensitive and conciliatory manner
- Develop appreciation for mutual and individual needs
- Repair difficult problems in your relationship
Success is totally dependent on the hard work, willingness and commitment of both partners to work together to sort out issues honestly and openly, assisted by a professional expert. It cannot be looked at as a miracle cure. Improvement occurs over time with carefully thought out steps that are taken in treatment, which can begin to change the nature of the relationship for the better.
A supportive and caring therapist will also open the space for each individual to understand his or her real needs and how a successful relationship can help lead to personal growth and transformation, not only for the relationship, but for each member of the couple.
